That's because with only a web camera, microphone, and an IM program, they're adding live video to their IM chats. You can, too. You can add live video to any of the most popular instant messenger applications. If you have a webcam, such as a Logitech QuickCam® or ClickSmart camera, just follow the instructions below:

MSN® Messenger
Download MSN® Messenger.
Install and sign on to MSN Messenger.
Choose a buddy from your contacts list and click OK.
Your friend will receive an instant message with a link that will launch the live video.

AOL® Instant Messenger™
Download AIM®.
Install and sign on to AIM.
Click on "Show Messenger Lists" and highlight the person with whom you want to share video.
Your friend will receive an instant message with a link that will launch the live video.

Yahoo!® Messenger
Download Yahoo!® Messenger
Launch the application.
Go to the Tools menu and select Start My Webcam.
Now select Invite to View My Webcam... and enter the Yahoo ID of the recipient.
Our friend will receive an invitation, and clicking Yes will start the live IM chat.
Be sure to take advantage of the new 320x240 pixel window size!

Windows® Messenger
Open Windows Messenger.
Click on the link to sign in, enter your .NET Passport email address and password. Click OK.
Double-click the name of a contact on your list. The Conversation window will open.
Click Start camera. Windows Messenger will notify you that an invitation was sent. Your contact receives an invitation such as: "Jon would like to have a voice and video conversation with you. Do you want to Accept (Alt+T) or Decline (Alt+D) the invitation?"
When your contact clicks Accept on the invitation, his or her picture will appear in your Conversation window. Likewise, your picture is transmitted to his or her Conversation window.
To end the conversation, click the button beside Stop talking or Stop camera
