BenQ A500 is a tri-band GSM phone.
It sports dual color displays, built-in VGA (640x480) camera with video capture, class 10 GPRS data, WAP 2.0 Internet browser and Java support.
The phone size is average and forms 83.5x45x23.1 mm, while the weight is 98 grams. It looks massive especially opened, and the very design tells upon - the upper part is as thick as the bottom one.
It influences the work comfort in no way, the model is well-balanced.
Three colours are available for the body - Light Electric Blue, Dark Blue, Cool Pink, Funky Gold. The main part of the body is silvery in all the variants with a lacquered covering.
A coupled volume button is placed on the left side surface, being small and placed uncomfortably, you'll have to search for it, since your finger won't cover it at a conversation.
A camera button is placed a bit below. The very top features a headset connector closed with a rubber cover fixed to the body.
An interesting place for a strap hole is chosen - it is on the left side surface between a headset connector and a volume button.
The top cover features a small (20x13 mm) external cSTN display capable of 4096 colours.
The display quality is average and the main disadvantages are small physical and font size, which is not scalable.
The external display can show a monthly calendar (just press the volume button in the standby mode), besides it can serve as a viewfinder for selfshooting.
An internal TFT screen of 128x160 pixels (30x38 mm) capable of 262K colours. The screen quality is high, the picture clear and bright.
Up to 1000 messages can be saved into the phone's memory. The device allows working with EMS, and there is a preset of small pictures, animations and melodies
Also there is a set of templates with an editing capability. You can send our message to a single user or apply a group message capability.
A VGA camera is integrated; both internal and eternal display can serve as a viewfinder. While shooting you can see the information about the resolution, contrast settings and zoom on the internal screen.
Contrast is adjusted by horizontal navi joystick deviations, and zoom is set by vertical movements. The main camera settings are accessible by pressing the left functional key.
Select of the following resolutions 96x64, 128x128, 128x160, 640x480 pixels. You can use any of picture compression types and one of 6 effects.
There is an 8x digital zoom. The quality of the pictures taken is average, you should not expect more from a VGA camera.
